Domodossola: sport, nature and culture, a holiday for all tastes in the heart of Ossola

Domodossola - Domodossola is a city of Verbania located in the center of the Ossola Valley, in the plain of the Toce river. It has always represented a crossing point for the Alps and Switzerland, today in fact the road that leads from Bern to Milan passes through this city and its Simplon pass. Among the places of historical interest there are the remains of the castle of Mattarella, an ancient military garrison, located on the homonymous hill.

The inhabited center has as its main nucleus Piazza Mercato, of fifteenth-century origin, which has always been a place of meeting and trade. Other places of interest are: - Palazzo Silva, an ancient Renaissance noble residence, which now houses a museum that recreates the Ossola history of the time; - Palazzo San Francesco, built on the remains of a very important Franciscan church for the town, which has now also become a museum and seat of various cultural events. It still maintains well preserved some original frescoes of the church; - Palazzo di Città, another cultural center of Domodossola, today the municipal seat, which preserves some documents of the Ossola partisan resistance. Domodossola is linked to the personality of the philosopher and theologian Antonio Rosmini, who lived here for years founding the religious congregation of the charity institute on Mount Calvary, which later became one of the sacred pre-alpine mountains and a UNESCO heritage site. Tourism, in addition to the cultural one, is linked to mountain sports and naturalistic landscapes.
