Matera - Known throughout the world for the 'Sassi' district, a UNESCO heritage site since 1993, Matera is the capital of Basilicata. The city center is Piazza Vittorio Veneto, and there are many viewpoints in the city that winds through many alleys and stairs, but the Sassi district is the most characteristic area.

These are two districts of the historic city: Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso. The buildings are usually placed one on top of the other and set in the tuff, recreating a very suggestive panorama that at night with the illuminated windows seems to be a nativity scene. The center of the historic city is the Civita district with the dominant cathedral. Another panoramic point not to be underestimated is the Murgia plateau, near the city, which allows you to enjoy a unique natural landscape and a beautiful view of the city itself. It is also possible to reach it with guided tours and excursions. The city is also linked to the writer Primo Levi who lived his confinement here after the Second World War and then wrote his most famous book Christ stopped in Eboli to denounce the disastrous conditions of the inhabitants of these areas. Subsequently there were several political currents that led first to the displacement and degradation of the stones with the movement of the people to the new neighborhoods, and then to the rebirth of the same with funding for the development of the territory.
