Todi: art treasure chest for enthusiasts

Todi - Birthplace of the friar and poet Jacopone, Todi is located in the province of Perugia and is considered one of the most liveable cities in the world. Tourism is very active and is about historical and artistic tourism given the long history of the city and the many places of interest and prestige. Piazza del Popolo is the place where the life of the town develops and where there are several prestigious buildings such as the Palazzo del Capitano, the Palazzo dei Priori and the Cathedral, all of a sixteenth-century medieval style.

It is advisable to visit the Roman cisterns, useful at the time for water drainage, and to the city museum which houses various objects and remains of different dominations and historical periods. There are also many works of art of prestige and value such as the wooden construction of the Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione which seems to be attributable to Bramante; in the picture gallery the painting by Giovanni di Pietro known as Lo Spagna 'The coronation'; and finally the Mars of Todi present in copy and found right in the town in the 19th century and dating back to the Etruscan age. Other noteworthy places are the Church of San Fortunato, in Gothic style, where it is possible to observe several frescoes in the 13 chapels and the crypts of the patron saints of the city, next to the one that contains the remains of Jacopone da Todi. Climbing the bell tower a breathtaking view will welcome the tourist. We also recommend a visit to the Monastery of Lucrezie, with the lapidary museum, and the Convent of Montesanto. The Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione is one of the symbolic buildings of the city, it is located outside the historic center and was built on the example of St. Peter in Rome.
