Nature Culture Food and wine Practical information

Isola del Giglio - Isola del Giglio is a Tuscan town located right on a small island off the coast of Grosseto. More than an island, it is an archipelago that also includes Giannutri. It is a well-known tourist destination, also known for the unpleasant event that involved the Costa Concordia, a cruise ship that ran aground and remained on the island for many months before being safely removed.

Tourism is mainly seaside due to the approximately 27 kilometers of mainly rocky coast. There are many inlets, promontories and suggestive coves that open onto the sea. The innermost area is rich in vegetation and also used for wine production, which is less practiced today than in the past. The best known autochthonous grape is Ansonico. Among the most evocative places for the breathtaking views are the three lighthouses of the island: Faro delle Vaccarecce, now no longer active, Faro del Fenaio, in the northern part of the island, Faro di Capel Rosso, which stands out on the tip promontory by Capel Rosso.
