Walk to town and to Cape Monaco

Nature Culture Food and wine Leisure and entertainment Practical information

San Vito lo Capo - The initial walk to the port makes you appreciate the quality of the sea water of the gulf where the city winds its way. In an intense light you continue in the streets, between white houses, palm trees and shops. We head towards Capo San Vito, stopping to admire the cliffs and the waves at the Belvedere di Bue Marino and visit the white lighthouse built in 1859.

A visit to the Sanctuary of San Vito from 1500 awaits us on our return. It is a fortified religious structure for the defense from pirates and the fortress, the rose window, the balconies, the watchtowers and the votive niches coexist in a harmonious way. It is time for lunch and when we are in the right place, we enjoy grilled shellfish and white wine. If we want to proceed with the trekking to Capo Monaco, outside the city we visit the Chapel of Santa Crescenzia of the sixteenth century. The path that climbs up between the pale rocks, cacti and ruins of defense fortresses, is steep but easy to walk. At the top a wonderful view awaits us on the whole arched and rocky coast with the white beaches cut out between the rocks and between cultivated beaches.
