Among the very clean and well-kept streets, we visit the historic Palazzo Battaglini, built in 1500 as the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. The cultural fabric is closely intertwined with traditions, so much so that naturally leavened breads, maltagliati and the famous Cancellate are spiced with wine. The latter are typical sweets, shaped with a hot iron. Each of the five wineries has its own wine tasting facilities and eateries for those wishing to stop for dinner. The patronal feast takes place on 13 July, the anniversary of the intervention of Santa Margherita who saved the town from the Saracen invasion in 1566. The statue of the Saint is carried in the streets meeting and rejecting a group of Turkish soldiers.
