The original nucleus of the fortress dates back to the Angevin age, to which the massive cylindrical tower could be traced; the 13th century plant, built to defend the Gulf of Capo Rizzuto, is part of the fortification system built by the Angevins. Towards the end of the 15th century the fortress passed into Aragonese hands. Not far away we can find the Gigli beach, in Sovereto, one of the most famous naturalistic attractions of this area. It takes its name from a particular species of white lilies present, which make the stay even more fascinating and fairytale. This area of Calabria is absolutely unmissable for visitors!
