Castle of the Fienga Park

Culture

Nocera Inferiore - Between the Val di Sarno and the Lattari Mountains, more precisely in Nocera Inferiore, is the Castello del Parco Fienga, the most representative of the city. The belvedere of the castle was built in the early 1200s thanks to Riccardo Filangieri, falconer of Frederick II of Swabia, with the project of transforming the castle from a defensive and military place into a structure that could also accommodate the nobles.

The castle is famous for its stories of weapons, passions, torments and murders and according to legend, illustrious names of the past were imprisoned within these walls, who would remain here forever, in the form of ghosts that according to this story would still populate the castle . The castle was officially born in 984, as a Lombard stronghold, the oldest remaining evidence is a keep tower, the elevation from the Swabian era and the base from the Norman era, in fact the castle has layers from various eras and various domains. The tower has a particular form of North-European architectural derivation, it is pentagonal in shape that gives a perfect balance, in fact it is the only one that has survived completely intact over the centuries. First it served as a cistern, then later Angevin-style openings were created for defensive use. From the top of the tower we can admire the whole Sarno Valley up to Vesuvius, we find ourselves in a splendid panoramic context, surrounded by nature and with completely healthy air.
