The palace of Colorno, a Versailles in Italy

Reggia di Colorno - The ducal palace of Colorno (sometimes more simply called "Reggia di Colorno) is one of the greatest historical pearls that the province of Parma can offer. This is a Baroque-style architectural complex surrounded by wonderful gardens in a mixed style between Italian gardens and French gardens. The building assumes its current appearance following the change of hands of the fortress of Colorno, a castle previously owned by the Sanseverinos and then conquered by the Farnese.

The latter stayed in the fortress for long periods, captured by the local landscape and the woods perfect for hobbies such as hunting. The work of the architects Ferdinando Galli da Bibbiena first and Ennemond Alexandre Petitot then, shapes the castle into a residence more similar to the counterparts employed by the French nobility. Capturing the immensity of the offer proposed by the palace is a difficult thing, as it would encroach on an eternal list of paintings, sculptures, rooms, architectural wonders, fireplaces, stairways, galleries: we are talking about a palace with four hundred rooms. The ducal palace of Colorno is one of those classic wonders that words can only detract from and that certainly deserve a long visit.
