Folklore and traditions

In Bricco Lù, on the other hand, the story of the farmer Poldo is told, who in order to marry Gentucca, his beloved, made a pact with the devil. He got Gentucca's hand, but after a year the devil returned to reclaim his soul. Gentucca died of pain, but it is said that he returns to San Lorenzo every night to look for his Poldo. Two other souls in pain are the ghosts of Elena and Chiara. The first haunts the castle of Barolo, where he returns every day to relive his suicide, which occurred by throwing himself out of a window. Chiara lives in spirit in the castle of Monticello, where she continues to search for her beloved, killed by his jealous cousin on his wedding day. Finally, in the Langhe wander around the masche, a sort of mischievous witches who can change shape and be in two places at the same time.
