Along the way you can come across two ancient artifacts that underwent conservative restoration in the 1990s. The first is a 'santella', a votive shrine so defined due to the Italianization of a dialect word that means 'place frequented by saints'. The shrine, built in the 17th century, is dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk, and it is no coincidence that it is located near a bridge and a river. In fact, the saint was killed just by being thrown into a river, the Vltava, as he had refused to fly the confessional secret at the request of his king. The bridge dates back to 1301 but was completely rebuilt in 1807 and is now invaded by thick vegetation.
