The open-air museum

Claino con Osteno - The inhabitants of the town on Lake Ceresio have been carrying out the project for the painted village for some time. The initiative makes it possible to enhance the old houses and tell their story. The murals show the traditions that tied the community to the mountain before the town was depopulated. Staying here we relive thanks to the images the presence of the stables, with the cows looking out from the cabinet, the haymaking, the long scythe with which the lawn was kept clean under the chestnut trees.

Located between the lake and the mountain, Claino is the ideal town for boat trips from the landing point, consisting of a pretty pier. Along the paths it is also possible to trek towards panoramic points such as Monte Sighignola or Alpe di Claino or even reach spiritual places such as the Seget Chapel or the Oratory of Santa Giulia. This, also depicted in a mural, can be reached via a mule track overlooking the lake. Built in the seventeenth century, it has a front porch and inside is rich in frescoes, framed in stucco decorations.
