The hermitage of Santa Maria Giacobbe

Pale. - The hermitage is housed at 525 m in a rocky cavity of Monte Pale that overlooks it. From the hamlet begins the staircase that protrudes from the rocky ridge, full of traces of pilgrims and hermits who went up to the spiritual refuge. The asceticism that is conquered is however extraordinary, to whatever religion or secular belief one belongs.

Indeed, it is a welcoming building, neither austere nor strictly Catholic, rich in frescoes dating back to the 12th century, such as the hermitage. The last hermit who lived there, until 1950, was Fra Luigi who left us his home with the necessary to live: beautiful frescoes, religious figures painted up to the vault of the Church, the vast panorama over the valley, a small kitchen, a well with miraculous water and ourselves. We all ask ourselves every now and then if we would be able to live in a hermitage and whatever the answer is, it is inevitable to stop some of our time in this beautiful place. The people of Pale guard the mountain, a corner that knows the world and escapes its wickedness.
