Venzone, a story of beauty and courage

Venzone - Venzone is a splendid medieval village painted on a painting whose background is the imposing Julian Pre-Alps, which seem to embrace and protect it, and the wide valleys that surround it. Its strategic geographical position has made it since ancient times an important crossroads of trade and still today it has all its characteristics, constituting a symbolic bridge between northern Italy and Europe.

Its history, albeit very ancient, is marked by a recent tragic event dated May 1976 which shocked not only Venzone, but also a large part of Friuli. Two earthquakes destroyed it, razing all its architectural heritage to the ground. What seemed to have all the connotations of a huge tragedy, has turned into a miraculous reconstruction of the entire city system and recovery of its historical parts, thanks to the work and cooperation of volunteers and non-volunteers from various parts of Italy. . This huge and stratospheric reconstruction work did not go unnoticed and so, in 2003, Venzone was awarded the gold medal for civil merit by the then President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. Following its architectural recovery it was also the industrial one with the creation of factories, fundamental for its economic recovery. The history of Venzone is striking, but also its undeniable medieval beauty of which it retains all its characteristics and which seems to have withstood time and the tragic events that have struck it.
