Drapia

Drapia - On a hill 360 meters above sea level stands the ancient village of Drapia, a place of ancient beauty where you are captivated by the wonderful beaches of Tropea. In the characteristic town, narrow and picturesque alleys open up, and at every step you can feel and admire the religious spirit of the city. Particularly interesting is the tradition of the brotherhoods, which today as in the past are an expression of the territory and its Saints.

The Chapel of the Confraternity of San Michele Arcangelo has now become the sacristy of the church of the Immaculate Conception; inside you can see the many paintings depicting scenes from the life of Mary while through a glass window it is possible to admire the remains of ancient burials. The church of the Immaculate Conception is rich in Baroque style decorations, it houses several wooden statues from the 18th century, two paintings from the 17th century, one depicting the Last Supper. There are numerous trekking paths, arranged for enthusiasts. Between rivers and ancient water mills it is possible to see the rare prehistoric fern. Among the oldest and most important monuments in the city of Drapia is the Galluppi Castle, the summer residence of the philosopher. The old farmhouse was adorned as a castle in the twentieth century. The church of Caria contains the altarpiece copy of the painting of the transfiguration by Raphael. In the hamlet of Gasponi there is the Neapolitan museum. The symbol of the hamlet is the church of San Michele immersed in the greenery of which there is a painting by Mezzele, a Neapolitan painter. The church of Santi Cosma e Damiano constitutes inside the picture of the Madonna with milk. Drapia is a Calabrian culinary tradition, on the tables are always present, the capocollo, the Tropea onion, the chilli and the cured meats.
