The splendid Vipiteno

Vipiteno - Vipiteno is a town of 7000 inhabitants in the province of Bolzano, in the Isarco Valley. In ancient times the town developed a lot thanks to the mining activity and its strategic position which made it a place of passage but also a stop for traders. Being in a border area, the cultural influence of Austria is very much felt here. Characteristic are its colorful houses with sloping roofs but the real symbol of the city is the Tower of the Twelve dating back to 1500.

Of great historical value are also the Commenda of the Teutonic Order which houses the Church of Santa Elisabetta, the Church of Our Lady of Marsh, the Jochlsthurn Palace, the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Town Hall. The latter over the centuries has welcomed several important figures such as the Empress of Austria and the musician Mozart. Its historic center is also very beautiful, full of shops and restaurants where you can savor the local cuisine. For the more sporty, on the other hand, it is advisable to take an excursion to the surrounding mountains.
