A day in Crotone

Crotone - Crotone is an Italian town, the capital of the province of the same name in Calabria. The city was founded by the Greeks in the eighth century BC. C. representing one of the most important centers of Magna Graecia; the city developed in the current historical center characterized by alleys and squares. The archaeological area of Capo Colonna was a complex of buildings where there was a Doric temple with six columns on the facade and fourteen on the sides. Unfortunately, few ruins remain of the urban center and the Greek temple. In the area there are the remains of three buildings: one believed to be the original temple of which the famous column remains, a Hestiatorion canteen building and a katagogion the guesthouse In the northern part of the archaeological area the remains of a Roman settlement and numerous other buildings have been found. including eighteenth-century villas and a church dedicated to the Madonna di Capo Colonna. The church of the Madonna di Capo Colonna houses the famous icon that is carried in procession every year. The seafront of Crotone with its history and its beauty enchants every visitor, walking the walkway of the nearby port during sunrise is certainly an experience to be lived heaven and earth at that moment take on a strange calm that makes all hearts happy. .
