Poncarale

Poncarale - The municipality of Poncarale extends between the Brescia hills of the Monte Netto regional park. Inhabited since Roman times, the city still retains its oldest area, known as the Rocca which from a naturalistic point of view is one of the most beautiful as it hosts many species of insects. On a small promontory stands the church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio.

The facade of the church is divided by a cornice. The upper register has a central window and two niches containing the statues of the saints of the church, inside the church has a single nave with a barrel ceiling. The most interesting work is the Zanin organ of the twentieth century, restored in 1999 and positioned to replace the organ of the eighteenth century. The Palazzo Vecchio is an important symbol of the city and is the place where the artist Virgilio Vecchio lived; his works are kept inside the palace, which can be visited by anyone. The castle is entered through the well-kept garden with colorful flowers and different plants, the facade of the building has three arches. The church of the Purification of the Virgin Mary has a classical façade, a gable with two slopes, a triangular pediment with a frescoed tympanum. Inside, splendid frescoes run through the single nave, while the painting The Marriage of Santa Caterina by Lazzarini is preserved in the church. The economy is mainly based on agriculture and viticulture especially in the production of Capriano del Colle rosso. The Monte Netto park is the last agricultural park granted by the Lombardy region. Over the years the municipality has devised a project based on the protection of the territory and the vineyards that are still present in the park area. There are numerous farmhouses that line the rural roads; the oldest is the one that together with the church of San Bernardo forms the homonymous complex; the San Bernardo company deals with the local production of fine wines such as Rambaldini. On the territory, pigs and scottona are bred, precious meats perfect to eat with a good glass of wine. In addition, the company deals with the production of dairy products. The city of Poncarale has several green areas where it is possible to stop, take walks on foot or by bicycle, the city is the perfect oasis for those who want to treat themselves to healthy relaxation in the midst of nature.
