Castello del Matese - Castello del Matese is a town of about 1400 inhabitants in the province of Caserta, in Campania. It is located near the border between Campania and Molise, at 476 meters above sea level. The village has Samnite origins and was used in ancient times as a defensive stronghold, under the rule of the Normans. Of medieval origins, this territory hosts several monuments dating back to that period.

Among these, the remains of the Castle, built with the use of local stone during the Norman rule, of which you can still admire some circular towers and some sections of the fortress walls. Among the other monuments, there are several churches, such as the parish church of Santa Croce, in Baroque style, the Church of Santa Maria of every Grace, or the Purgatory Chapel located in the lower part of the town. Another monument is the Cistercian Grangia, also called 'The path of the Cistercian monks', a path that was once traveled by the Cistercian monks, inside which one has the feeling of being observed: the Grangia (what remains of it) frightens the tourist who walks the path until reaching a terrace overlooking the Orsara Valley.
