In 1420 it passed to the Serenissima Venetian Republic and remained there for almost 400 years. The walls of Popone were demolished at the end of the nineteenth century. Among the most famous monuments of Marano Lagunare there is the Loggia in Istrian stone. Noteworthy is the 32-meter-high millenary tower, the first historical records of which date back to 1066; all its sides are decorated with busts depicting historical figures. Look over the Piazza Grande where the 15th century Palazzo dei Provveditori stands. The freshwater wells that have remained intact are interesting. To visit the church of San Martino, built in 1752 on a previous church of the year 1000. The church of the Beata Vergine della Salute which houses the statue of the Madonna dei miracoli which every three years is taken to the sea to obtain graces is worth a visit.
