Nature Culture
Palazzuolo sul Senio - Palazzuolo sul Senio is a small village of 1,200 inhabitants, located at 437 meters above sea level in the upper Mugello. Surrounded by woods, hills and greenery as far as the eye can see, it rises at the bottom of the valley like a pearl among the rocks. The heron was defined by the magazine in 1991 as the ideal village of Italy. Inhabited since the Bronze Age, it has known Etruscan, Roman and Lombard settlements, until it entered the protective wing of the Florentine Republic in 1362. (continues below the video)
The architectural symbol of the village is the fourteenth-century Palazzo dei Capitani, with the facade adorned with noble coats of arms. The palace hosted the warrior Pope Giulio II Della Rovere in 1506 with his personal secretary Niccolò Macchiavelli. Today it is home to two museums: the museum of mountain people with over 800 objects of daily use and the archaeological museum with important finds from the Bronze Age to the Renaissance. Palazzuolo sul Senio is characterized by its stone streets, arcades, severe medieval arches that attract many visitors. Remarkable is the cultural and folkloristic liveliness that invests the village especially in the summer months.
