San Marino and its treasures

Culture

San Marino - Today we take you to the heart of Italy, to the third smallest country in Europe, after the Principality of Monaco and the Vatican City. We are in San Marino, a few kilometers from Rimini and on the border with Emilia Romagna and the Marche. In 2008 it was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Mount Titano, with its three 'feathers' represents the symbol of the town and marks the beginning of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines.

One of the main reasons why you need to visit San Marino is the historic center, which, as already mentioned, is also a UNESCO heritage site. But before entering the historic center, one cannot but stop at the Porta di San Francesco, obtained from the walls of the Franciscan Convent from which it takes its name, which represents the main access to the city, as well as to the historic center. Within it, we mention some of the main buildings and squares that you cannot give up; the Public Palace, the Piazza della Libertà with its statue, the Basilica del Santo, the Cava dei Balestrieri, the three towers of which the first includes a castle and a church, the second tower, a castle, the walls, a small church and the Museum of Arms and the third, the smallest, has, instead of only walls and a tiled roof. Finally, the Torture Museum, which you will find on your right with respect to the walls, is peculiar; it is one of the most disturbing museums in Europe and dedicated to all the torture techniques that have characterized history. A museum not suitable for everyone, especially weak stomachs, but definitely interesting.
