Campo Tures, nature and authenticity

Campo Tures - Campo Tures is a town of about 5600 inhabitants in the autonomous province of Bolzano, located at 864 meters above sea level to act as a natural divider between the Val di Tures to the south and the Valle Aurina to the north. Its history is closely linked to that of Castel Tures, the largest castle in the area, visited annually by thousands of tourists.

The pearl of the village are the Tures Waterfalls, easily reachable on foot with the San Francesco path that winds through the woods and inside the waterfalls themselves, lapped by splashes of fresh water to end in the chapel of Francis. The town is surrounded by almost eighty mountains that exceed 3000 meters in height, providing endless opportunities for hikers, guided tours and lovers of speed and cross-country skiing. The local gastronomy is strongly typical, to be tasted in an informal way in the characteristic farms scattered throughout the valley. A very popular dish here is that of Pressed Canederli, with the addition of gray cheese, very lean. Other specialties are Shlutzkrapfen, ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta rigorously prepared by hand and served with grated Parmesan cheese and melted butter, blueberry juices in red and black variants, and South Tyrolean speck, smoked following a typical regional recipe that requires a long exposure to fresh alpine air and flavoring with local herbs. The authenticity of the raw materials derives from the surrounding environment that provides uncontaminated pastures, an ideal place for foraging the cows and an ideal condition for the production of top quality milk for cheeses, including the Pustertaler Bergkäse, produced according to the original recipe of the farmers Mountain.
