Scafati: hinge city between Naples and Salerno

Scafati - Scafati is a Salerno municipality which due to its geographical position is very integrated in the Neapolitan reality thus acting as a hinge between the two capitals of the region: Salerno and Naples. It is in fact the largest municipality by population of the Agro Nocerino Sarnese, a geographical area that includes the Sarno valley and is closed by the Picentini mountains.

And it is precisely for this important position that the town was the site of a famous battle during the Second World War. A clash that saw the partisans and the British fight to defeat the German troops. Battle that is still remembered today with a party and a historical reconstruction in the most important streets of the city. Piazza Vittorio Veneto is the main square of the city, overlooked by the church of Santa Maria delle Vergini, patron saint, and where the historic center develops. Another important square is Piazza Garibaldi with the characteristic via Zara; while the main course is called Corso Nazionale. The town hall is located in an ancient noble palace, Palazzo Mayer, and behind it is the Villa Comunale, also known as Parco Wenner. A public park that represents the green area of the city and houses a specimen of Jubaea spectabilis (a type of palm) which is the largest in Europe in size. The pride of the city is also the Polverificio Borbonico, where gunpowder was produced and which today is home to exhibitions and events.
