Moncenisio

Nature Culture

Moncenisio - Moncenisio is the smallest town in Piedmont with its only 40 inhabitants, stands at an altitude of 1460 meters, administratively belongs to the metropolitan city of Turin. It develops along the course of the Cenischia stream and near two small Alpine lakes, the Foppa and the Grande.

The village is linked by a double knot to the Mont Cenis pass, which has always been a communication route between Italy and France; pilgrims, wayfarers, smugglers, generals, all have passed through here. We remember among all Pippin the Short, Charlemagne, Frederick I the Barbarossa, Henry IV. Moncenisio is an alpine border village with very few houses in wood and stone of modest size, in the historic center there are still fountains and basins. Nature is obviously queen, overflowing with its biodiversity. Flora and fauna of the most disparate coexist side by side. The only church worthy of note is that of San Giorgio with an interesting wooden portal depicting the saint struggling with the dragon.
