Ossona

Ossona - Ossona is a small town in the province of Milan. The origins of the town date back to the 1st century AD, in fact several historical artifacts have been found on the site. The municipal coat of arms depicts a golden ear and a mulberry plant highlights the agricultural vocation of the municipality since its birth. In the center of the historic center is Villa Litta Modignani, now the Town Hall, at the entrance it is possible to admire a splendid circular fountain.

The internal garden of the villa is well cared for. Adjacent to the villa is the church of San Bartolomeo, built in the 11th century. Inside there are paintings attributed to the painter Francesco Paglia, while the altarpiece depicting 'The martyrdom of San Bartolomeo' is attributed to Peterzano. The 13th century church of San Cristoforo was modified several times. The bell tower and the external façade date back to the eighteenth century while the colored glass is from the nineteenth century. Inside there are numerous frescoes and paintings. Another villa in the city is Villa Bosi, the last home of Francesca Bosi Meraviglia was used for many years as a pediatric hospital belonging to the Ospedale Maggiore in Milan, unfortunately given the lack of beds it was abandoned. Today the seat of the Proloco is the perfect setting for a livestock and garden tools exhibition. Of renowned importance is the kindergarten named after Teresa Sarti Strada, founder of Emergency, completely built with recycled material. In 2011 the Auditorium was inaugurated where it is possible to admire numerous concerts. One of the most important events is the 'FAIR OF SAN BARTOLOMEO' also known as the onion festival which takes place in August. Typical dish of the place is the cassuola with ribs and pork rinds seasoned with cabbage.
