Maratea - Maratea is a town in Basilicata, in the province of Potenza, has 4,900 inhabitants and overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the Gulf of Policastro. Considered, well, the pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea, it boasts beaches of very dark, almost black sandstone and crystal clear waters, a paradise for sports diving. It is called the city of the 44 churches, of which, for obvious reasons of space, we limit ourselves to mentioning that of the Annunciata, the Basilica of San Biagio, patron saint of the city, the Madonnina della Grotta and the Mother Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, with medieval bell tower and remarkable wooden choirs inside.

Monte San Biagio deserves a trip, which dominates Maratea from above, offering panoramas of incomparable beauty. The very white statue of Christ the Redeemer is delicate. The historic center is very pleasant, an ancient village where alleys and pavements of the time are excellently preserved. The flagship of the local gastronomy is His Majesty the red pepper. Last mention is a must for the great cave of Maratea, with stalactites and stalagmites.
