The flavors of the Gran San Bernardo

Gran San Bernardo - The Grand San Bernardo Valley is located in the Aosta Valley. This territory is famous for its carnival masks in particular the Lanzette typical of the Etroubles Carnival. In the town of Saint Rhemy, a prized ham called Jambon De Bosses has been produced since 1397, absolutely worth trying for its strong flavor. If you feel thirsty during a bike excursion, it is advisable to stop and drink at the Fonte di Citrin from which a slightly sparkling water comes out that helps diuresis.

A visit to Etroubles is recommended, which with its works of art scattered throughout the city is considered a real open-air museum. Another typical product of the area is the Birra della Via Francigena which is prepared with water from the Great Saint Bernard. Here breeding is of great importance, in particular of cows that are used to produce milk and meat. Typical for example is the Teteun which is produced with the udders of these animals and the addition of local spices. The result is a very distinctive flavor that is vaguely reminiscent of milk and cheese. The flagship, however, are the sausages such as Boudin which is a bovine salami with potatoes and beets, the Salee which is made with salted meat flavored with garlic and the Mocetta made with dried and seasoned beef.
