Matese: uncontaminated places where nature reigns supreme

Monti del Marese - The Matese massif is part of the Samnite Apennines and extends between two regions: Campania and Molise. The highest peak is Monte Miletto which is located in the Molise area, and Gallinola and Monte Mutria are also worthy of note. In addition to the ski slopes and possible climbs in favorable conditions, Lake Matese remains to be seen.

Of karst nature, Lake Matese is the highest lake in Italy (for this type of origin), located between Mount Miletto and Mount Gallinola, from which it receives its waters. Thanks to very little human presence, the area of the Matese mountains is famous for its uncontaminated nature and its quiet. The fauna also benefits. Among the most common species that can be observed we remember the Mallard, the carp, the perch or the trout. Many common also the wild cat, the hare and the fox, but also the wild boar protected by deciduous forests. However, the wolf remains, the main animal of these areas. Gastronomy can only be centered on the production of cheese and meat, as well as on wine. Typical raw materials are also chestnuts and mushrooms.
