Adria
Culture
Adria - Adria is a Venetian municipality located on the Po river delta; it has 19,000 inhabitants and belongs to the province of Rovigo. Of very ancient origins, we speak of the X-VI century BC. C. by the Venetians who built a village on stilts on marshy land, it was later Etruscan and then Roman. Artistically very interesting, it deserves a thorough visit. (continues below the video)
The nineteenth-century Cathedral stands on a previous building of the 400, boasts an interesting interior with three naves with valuable bas-reliefs in white marble and an ancient crypt. Noteworthy is the Basilica of the tomb, from the 1700s, on previous buildings that were first pagan and then Christian; the name 'of the tomb' derives from the fact that the burial of an illustrious Roman politician was found: Quinto Tizio Sertoriano. Important is certainly Villa Mecenati, from the early 1900s, in Empire style, with a large surrounding garden, today it houses the Music Conservatory. Mention also for the interesting Municipal Theater and for the rich National Archaeological Museum of Adria.
