Its characteristic streets climb the hill up to the tower, the only and main remnant of the great fortress that dominated the town. Even today we find the ancient history of Montefranco among the streets and buildings of the town: the privileges granted made it called 'porta franca' the one from which the exempted goods came out and 'spoletina' the door from which the merchants returned. Towards the end of the 4th century the Minorite Franciscans settled in Montefranco with the construction of a convent, which is still visible today. Another religious building to visit is certainly also the church dedicated to the Assumption, which was born on a seventeenth-century nucleus and is located in the original part of the town. The small Montefranco seems to be rich not only in nature and landscapes but also in the history of our land, as evidenced by its streets and buildings.
