Fortezza - We are in Bolzano, more precisely in Fortezza, a name that recalls the most famous place for which it is worth visiting these valleys crossed by lakes and rivers and immersed in the woods. The Forte di Fortezza is an Austrian fort that rises at an altitude of 750 m above sea level in the Isarco Valley, belonging to the great system of fortifications that divide Italy from Austria.

This architectural masterpiece was built between 1833 and 1838, as an impassable barrier for any army, however, curiously not undergoing any attack, it turned into a cathedral in the desert. The Isarco River, which flows in front of it, was also one of the main reasons for its construction. It consisted of three blocks, the Forte Basso, with the headquarters of the command, the bread ovens. The Middle Fort with the Villa and the High Fort, the Citadel, which can be reached via a staircase of 451 steps because it is 75 meters higher than the rest. It is the oldest fortification in Tyrol. Recently restored, in 2010 it received the first prize of the renowned Città di Oderzo architecture award.
