The cradle of art

Pietrasanta - Pietrasanta is the historical capital of Versilia as well as the capital of marble processing. We can define it as a real cradle of art, its artistic heritage bears the signature of sculptors such as the great Michelangelo who lived here for a short period of time. This casket of artistic treasures contains numerous buildings among which the Cathedral of S.

Martino stands out, an imposing church placed on a large marble staircase, and which has a marble facade dominated in the center by a large richly decorated rose window; the structure has a three-nave plan and preserves a very large sculptural and pictorial set inside. Among the religious buildings we also find the church and convent of S. Agostino characterized by a single nave and a simple marble facade with three large blind arches. The attractions to discover are really many, to name a few: Palazzo Moroni, the piazzetta del Centauro, Palazzo Panichi, the Rocca di Sala and Palazzo Guinigi, the Monument to Leopoldo II, the column of freedom, the Monastery of S. Leone, the church and the Convent of S. Francesco, the birthplace of Giosuè Carducci or that of Father Eugenio Barsanti, inventor of the internal combustion engine together with Felice Matteucci.
