The Palazzo dei Vicari is a fourteenth-century building, the original nucleus was composed of a single tower. After the erection of the 'terra nuova' as a vicarial seat, changes were made, the Palazzo dei Vicari of Scarperia was the seat of the mayor and subsequently of the Vicars, becoming in 1415 the seat of the Vicariate of the Florentine Republic as a military outpost. Built on the model of the Palazzo di Firenze, the fortress opens onto the square and its façade is adorned with the coats of arms of the Vicars who succeeded the government. Upstairs it is possible to admire 'The Madonna and Child' of the Ghirlandai school. The north wing of the building houses the museum of cutting tools, inside are kept the handicrafts of knives, scissors and irons. Outside the palace it is possible to visit the cutler's workshop. Key events of the city are the historical re-enactments, an example is the historical re-enactment that will take place on 8 September which deals with the foundation of Scarperia, which begins with a historical procession up to the square where games of the 1400s in particular are played. the 'Palio del Vicotto' is held in honor of the Vicar. The Pieve di San Pietro houses the baptismal font, a ceramic masterpiece by Giovanni della Robbia, which depicts the stories of San Giovanni Battista. The museum conceived and built by Leprino, a character from Sant'Agata who made miniatures of characters in movement. The very precious Pala dell'Assunta is exhibited in the Pieve di Santa Maria. Worthy of note is the convent of Bosco ai Frati founded by the Ubaldini and donated to the monks of San Basilio who lived there until 1012. After centuries of abandonment it was taken over by the Franciscans in 1206. In the convent you can admire a precious wooden altar, a gift from the family. Medici, in the chapter room you can admire the wooden crucifix attributed to Donatello.
