Food and wine Folklore and traditions

Camporgiano - Camporgiano is a town of 2070 inhabitants, in the province of Lucca in Garfagnana. The origins of Camporgiano date back to ancient Rome, in fact the city at the time was a fortified village along the via gloria that connected Lucca to Lune. Monument of the past that can still be visited today is the Fortress of Castruccio Castracani, built in the 15th century and had the task of protecting the city from enemy attacks. Talking about Camporgiano is above all talking about food, there are many associations that are involved in promoting the typical dishes and the history of the city. The Garfagnana food and agro biodiversity community association is responsible for promoting the raw materials that are produced in the city. The motto of biodiversity underlined in the food serves to indicate the various animal species that are raised and the various vegetables that are grown. The folkloric group 'la Muffrina' from Camporgiano is responsible for making the local traditions known in Italy and abroad. The dance inherited from the past, called Muffrina, gave the group its name. Since 2008, the La Piana nursery has been managing a plant genoplasm bank, that is, a bank where various plants such as weeds and vines have been collected over the years. The Garfagnina bean is one of the examples of local production. Of recent production is the sparkling wine of the Bravi Camporgiano farm, made with old vines of Garfagnana, recovered and reclaimed. Another wine produced is Pinot Noir, its production began by chance about 20 years ago and has since become a well-known wine. The Bravi company also deals with the production of chestnut flour and honey. Typical dish of the tradition are chestnut tagliolini with bird sauce with chestnut pecorino.
