Pontassieve: a town to discover

Pontassieve - The municipality of Pontassieve rises on the right bank of the Arno River, exactly where the Arno and the Sieve rivers meet. This town is rich in history, the first remains found date back to Etruscan and Roman times. Only in the Middle Ages did the town acquire importance and prestige. The rich and powerful Florentines understood the importance and potential of such a functional strategic junction that it was excellent for trade.

Thus they built a fortress nearby: the Sant'angelo fortress, which was built as an imposing and majestic structure. Shortly thereafter other houses were built around the fortress and little by little the town was formed. The initial town was called Castel Sant'angelo but soon, due to the presence of the ancient bridge that crosses the Sieve, the name changed to Pontassieve. Here the landscape is hilly, green and full of wonderful scents and colors. The sound of the flowing water accompanies the course of people's lives. A place where agriculture and wine production has been important since ancient times. In this village you can still see 3 of the 4 gates that formed the entrance to the city, which in ancient times was surrounded by walls, visit the historic center with its ancient alleys, look and admire the Medici bridge which dates back to 1500 and is the symbol of this village. Lots of historical buildings, immersed in a village full of nature and serenity, where you will find an ideal refuge to recharge your batteries far, but not too far, from the city.
