Olivone di Semproniano

Semproniano - In 2004 the Semproniano middle school took part in a national competition, 'The school adopts a monument', with the project 'Let's adopt the olive tree of Semproniano'. This tree was known in the past for its height which, before being hit in 1998 by an arson attack, reached 21 meters. In the night between 10 and 11 May they poured petrol and kerosene into the inner part of the trunk of this marvelous monumental tree, completely damaging the three branches that made up its foliage.

Although a complaint has been made to unknown persons, it has not yet been possible to trace the name of those responsible for this mess. Fortunately, the plant continued to produce new suckers from the roots, so a new project was born that saw the birth of the 'sons of Olivone'. So many seedlings genetically identical to the mother plant were born that they grew in the greenhouses of the agricultural institute to then be donated to the olive growers of Semproniano. At the same time, the 'olivone di Fibbianello' association was created with the aim of protecting, promoting and spreading the 'daughters of Olivone'.
