The oldest nucleus, and the historic center, is characterized by a checkerboard layout which, starting from the apex of the imaginary wedge, runs along a median street that leads to the wide Piazza Galimberti. This square is the urban and commercial center of the city, also thanks to the numerous activities that arise under the characteristic arcades, divided into modern and ancient. On the square overlooks the house of Duccio Galimberti, a national hero and partisan, to whom the city of Cuneo is very fond. The monumental complex of San Francesco is very beautiful, divided into a fifteenth-century church and a Franciscan convent (today the Civic Museum). The Church is characterized by the beautiful frescoes by Pietro da Saluzzo, while the museum inside the Convent is divided into an archaeological section, a sacred art section and an ethnographic section.
