Nature Culture Practical information

Sperlonga - Today we are in the Riviera di Ulisse, in the province of Latina, just 150 kilometers from Rome, in one of the most beautiful villages in Italy; so let's go and visit Sperlonga. The village offers several historical and natural attractions that you can visit in any season you want. We immediately arrive in front of Torre Puglia, located on the tip of the promontory on which the town stands and built in 1532.

It was destroyed during an incursion of the Barbarossa and rebuilt in 1611 and again destroyed in 1623. Between 1870 and 1969 it was used as a headquarters for the Guardia di Finanza, while later it became the seat of the Marine Environment Education Center of the Riviera d'Ulisse Regional Natural Park. It was part of an important defensive system together with the Torre del Nibbio and the Torre di Capovento. We then visit the Villa of the Emperor Tiberius created by the enlargement of a previous late-republican villa. A natural cave, already known to archaeologists since 1908, was set up as a summer dining room, with water features and extraordinary sculptural groups from the cycle of Ulysses, among which the Polyphemus Group stands out, found in fragments in 1957 and currently preserved in the Sperlonga National Archaeological Museum. We say goodbye to the village, taking a dip in the Spiaggia della Sorgente. The peculiarity that makes it unique is the source of drinking water that flows naturally from the sand, from which the beach takes its name.
