Verolavecchia - Verolavecchia is a small town of 3900 inhabitants in the Lower Brescia area. The town is famous because Pope Paul VI used to come here to spend his summer holidays. Despite being a small town, Verolavecchia has a high quality of life. Of great interest are the Civic Tower dating back to the medieval period, the former Dominican Convent, and the icebox. The hamlet of Monticelli d'Oglio is considered one of the most beautiful villages in the Brescia plain. Inside there is a closed courtyard where the ancient farmers resided and the Castello di Vedetta which is a former fortified farmhouse. Villa Alghisi which was the summer residence of Pope Paul VI is worth a visit. Typical products of the area are jams, cheeses such as Grana Padano and provolone, sausages such as salami, cotechino and soppressa, vegetable preserves and bread. Among the typical desserts, meringues deserve a mention, without neglecting wine and honey. In short, Verolavecchia offers everything and more from the food and wine point of view.
