Little corner of paradise

Antrona Schieranco - The Antrona Valley is surrounded by majestic high mountains and hosts the village that bears the name of Antrona Schieranco. Originally it was inhabited by shepherds and, at a naturalistic level, it is characterized by clear waterways, including the Troncone stream. The municipality was born administratively in 1928 with the union of two pre-existing municipalities: Antrona Piana and Antrona Schieranco, both rich in ancient history.

In 1642 there was a large landslide that destroyed a large part of the old town and this led to a change in the morphological level of the valley. Only after this natural disaster was Lake Antrona formed, which was subsequently modified to use its waters for hydro-electric purposes. The place offers the possibility of long trekking and climbing excursions; it is also equipped with a ski lift, which is also important on a social level. The village also has several fields for many sports: hockey, football, bowls and tennis. There are several hamlets that belong to Antrona: the hamlet of San Pietro, in particular, is characterized by houses in stone and wood. The homonymous church, completed in 1662, has a facade with a rose window and a Romanesque portal. The churchyard, on the other hand, is bordered by wonderful chapels depicting the way of the cross in nineteenth-century style. Instead, the hamlet of Madonna presents some particularities that can be found in the church and in the monument in memory of the partisans, fundamental stages for the visitor.
