Saint Rhemy en Bosses, a mountain village
Nature Culture
Saint Rhemy en Bosses - Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses, a place of exceptional events, is an Italian town of 332 inhabitants in the upper Gran San Bernardo valley, in the Aosta Valley. The territory is characterized by cool springs, forests and vast clearings. The landscape gradually becomes darker and more solitary, the mountains cold. Despite its rough and primitive landscape, it remains a place that has seen a lot of history pass through its slopes. (continues below the video)
In ancient times, the Gran San Bernardo pass was an important place, despite the high altitude and the prohibitive climatic conditions. It had a considerable importance in history, a place from which the Saracen bands, the Romans, astute merchants and important armies passed, up to the men of Napoleon Bonaparte. Due to the comings and goings of various people, the maronnier were born, predecessors of alpine guides, also called snow soldiers. The activities of these men were oriented towards accompanying less practical passers-by, inexperienced travelers, guided and helped on their journey. Today progress has changed the life of the country, which despite everything remains tied to nature.
