Orridi di Uriezzo and Marmitte dei Giganti

Nature

Premia e Baceno - The Orridi di Uriezzo are a complex of gorges in the Antigorio Valley, created thanks to the action of the streams that once flowed under the Toce glacier. During the last glaciation the valley was occupied by the glacier, the streams have, with the passage of time, eroded the rock forming these meandering canyons, with the retreat of the glacier, the streams have also retreated leaving what today are called Orridi di Uriezzo.

The South Orrido can be covered completely on foot, without the need for large equipment; it is about 200 meters long and 20 to 30 meters deep. The North-East Ravine is about 100 meters long and about 10 meters deep, very narrow in some places. The West Ravine is the least characteristic, formed by two distinct sections. Then there is a fourth ravine named Vallaccia, which is difficult to access and ends in the Devero stream. Along the way of the Gorges we find the Marmitte dei Giganti, they are cylindrical cavities, of the same erosive nature as the Gorges, where however the debris that was transported by the water formed vortices that with the passage of time have shaped these cavities.
