The magic of Assisi

Culture

Assisi - Assisi is a splendid medieval village in the province of Perugia which attracts thousands of tourists every year for its architectural beauties and more. The town is located on Mount Subasio and its historic center is made up of narrow alleys and characteristic brick houses. The symbol of the city is the Basilica of San Francesco which houses several frescoes of great value restored a few years ago after the damage caused by the earthquake.

The crypt where the remains of the saint are kept is also suggestive. In Piazza del Comune there is another important monument: the Temple of Minerva. It consists of majestic columns and is currently the seat of the Church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva. The imposing Torre del Popolo acts as a bell tower. Not far from here we find the New Church in which there are two statues depicting the parents of San Francesco. Very beautiful is also the Eremo delle Carceri where there is the cave where the famous citizen saint prayed and slept. Fascinating is the Rocca Maggiore which dominates the whole town from above. In the town there is no shortage of artisan shops who produce objects of great artistic value, in particular ceramics. Assisi becomes even more magical during the Christmas period with its markets, illuminated trees and detailed nativity scenes set up in the most evocative points of the city.
