villa Carlotta. - In Tremezzo, overlooking the Bellagio peninsula, you can visit the historic seventeenth-century residence. It was commissioned by Giorgio Clerici and is structured on three floors, two of which can be visited, in a sober and baroque style. In the early 1800s the Villa was bought by Gian Battista Sommariva, ruler of the Cisalpine Republic and art collector, who furnished it with numerous works and changed the face of the park into a romantic garden.

From the owner Carlotta, daughter of the Tsar of Prussia, the villa was expropriated for war reasons and is still managed today by a non-profit organization. In the rooms, maintained with the prestigious furnishings of the time, you can visit sculptures by Canova, Hayez, Acquisti, Tadolini and frescoes by Appiani, Migliara and Wicar, as well as a precious centerpiece by the goldsmith Raffaelli. The walk in the 70,000 m2 park offers the unique opportunity to admire the flowering of 180 varieties of azaleas and rhododendrons, to stroll in the valley of Australian ferns, to be enchanted by the romantic camellias.
