It is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and also boasts the orange flag of the Touring Club. Here was born the father of international law Alberico Gentili, to whom the main square of the village is dedicated. At the end of 1500 he wrote the 'de iure belli', the first systematic treatise on the law of nations. Medieval village born on the highest part of the Esculano hill, almost 700 meters high, shows its ancient and unchanged grandeur through the majestic course of the castle walls, built in 1300. Crossing one of the four gates of the town you will discover a treasure chest of art and architecture having its best emblem in the Collegiate Church; of Romanesque foundation with a beautiful Gothic facade and sumptuous decoration. San Ginesio was chosen as the pilot municipality for UNESCO's annual conference of creative cities. Of particular interest is the pilgrims' hospital, built in 1295 in Romanesque style with a single order of loggias then doubled in 1457. The place was a hospitable domus, that is, it awaited pilgrims in transit to Loreto or Rome. San Ginesio keeps intact this ancient vocation for hospitality; rich in accommodation facilities, it also offers visitors naturalistic opportunities in its neighboring countryside.
