Culture

Castello e borgo di Circello - The castle stands on the spur of Circello, in the Benevento hinterland and dominates the valleys of the Torti and Tammarecchia rivers. In the famous battle of June 1496 between the Aragonese against the French and the mercenaries of Charles VIII, the castle did not fall. It became the property of the Di Somma family in 1528, who kept it until 1950, it is the property of the Municipality and can be visited on weekends. Nearby you can visit the archaeological area of Bebio, where the Ligurians Bebiani were deported in 181 BC. C. by order of the Emperor Trajan. The Ligurian city acquired importance as it grew, resizing itself into a village after the fall of the Empire. Here was found the Tabula Alimentaria, dated 101 BC. C. on which all the land transfers were transcribed and kept in the Diocletian Museum in Rome.
