The ancient Roman road on the bottom of the sea of Grado
Culture
Grado - While filming for a television broadcast, divers have identified on the bottom of the sea, near Grado, something that could turn out to be what remains of a Roman road. The find was made about 6 meters deep in front of the island of Pampagnola, and it was not a complete surprise for archaeologists. In fact, some surveys carried out previously had already signaled the presence of something, but no road was even thought of. (continues below the video)
The hypothesis that there could be a land path that once connected Grado to the mainland is not that difficult to believe. In fact, there are also historical sources that affirm this, especially the Historia Langobardorum by Paolo Diacono. The historian tells of how, in the early Middle Ages, there were very important hydrogeological upheavals, What once emerged has thus ended up in the bottom of the sea, due to the rise of the latter, and it is not excluded that it may now return to the light.
