The medieval village of Gubbio

Gubbio - Gubbio is a splendid medieval village of about 31,000 inhabitants in the province of Perugia. Among the places of great interest in the town we find the Fontana dei Matti located in front of the Palazzo Bargello. A very nice thing about this fountain is that whoever makes three laps running around it receives the Driving License from Matto.

One of the very few suspended squares in Italy is Piazza Grande from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city. Inside a picturesque shop is the imposing Botte dei Canonici which in ancient times could contain 387 barrels of wine. Once fermented, it was then decanted into smaller barrels. The Palazzo Ducale with its splendid gardens is also of great charm. Very beautiful is the Church of San Francesco della Pace which, according to legend, was built in the place where the she-wolf cave that the saint tamed stood. Finally, there are two interesting events that take place every year in the town: the Festival of the Middle Ages and the Exhibition of Nativity Scenes.
