History of Frascati and prestigious buildings

Frascati - In 1191 Rome destroyed the inhabited area of Tusculum, and its residents took refuge in the vicinity, 'in frascata' or in the houses of branches leaning against ancient churches. Over time the town grew and embellished with noble villas, since wealthy people who wanted to revive the splendor of the residences of Cicero and Lucullus also moved here.

This is the origin of Frascati, one of the largest centers of the Roman hills, which stands on a hill from which you can enjoy a unique view of the Roman countryside. Frascati is famous for this, but also because it is home to some important research institutes, such as those of Physics and Astrophysics. The city center is full of buildings of great beauty and with a long history. The best known is Villa Aldobrandini, which was built in 1598 and is a beautiful residential villa with a huge park adorned with fountains and terraces. The central square is Piazza San Pietro, overlooked by the cathedral from the baroque façade and closed by the 3-tiered fountain created by Girolamo Fontana.
